Poly’s Varsity Girls’ Tennis team finished Homecoming with a terrific victory over Dalton with a score of 4-1. The Poly team won in both singles and doubles matches throughout the day. Captains Olivia Whitmer and Lauren Pendleton encouraged their peers to represent Poly well as Homecoming began, since the goals of the day are to boast Poly’s athletic strength and show visitors and spectators how great the athletes truly are.

Head coach Bill Martire and assistant coach Adam Bisceglia are proud of how far the team has come thus far, and are even surprised by the number of athletes who have joined the team. They have had a large turnout from underclassmen and a consistent group of juniors and seniors.

Some highlights from the matches are that “1, 2, and 3 singles all finished strong within 5 minutes of each other, putting the match into Poly’s hands early,” said Bisceglia.

At last year’s Homecoming, the team won 4 of 7 games against Riverdale, a competitive and aggressive team from the Bronx. Poly has already beat Riverdale this season with a score of 3 to 2. Over the course of the last month, the team has managed to obtain 5 wins to 3 losses. Still, they are confident in their ability to succeed as they enter into championship season. After the team’s success at Homecoming this past weekend, it is without doubt that they are contenders within the Ivy League.
