Happy back to school! It’s finally fall, which means the leaves are changing and school is back in session. A new school year is the perfect time to try new things and explore the different opportunities Poly has to offer. The beginning of the school year means fall sports are competing, clubs are starting, and the play is being cast! To all the new freshmen here at Poly, this is your year to try new things! It might be overwhelming at first, but don’t worry, you will find your passion. It can be difficult to try new things, but Poly always has the support you need.
Here’s where to start:
Every fall, we hold our clubs fair. Last year, the fair had a vast array of clubs ranging from Model UN, Coding Club, Ceramics Club, and many more. If you don’t find something you are interested in, you can start your own club! The clubs fair is a great place to take advantage of Poly’s opportunities, such as joining the debate team or our school newspaper, the Polygon!
The clubs at Poly are just a smaller glimpse into the lively world at school. Interested in playing sports? Poly has 15 sports and 28 varsity sports for you to join. In the fall there is soccer, cross country, football, girls’ tennis, and girls’ volleyball. Winter offers swimming, basketball, hockey, squash, wrestling, and indoor track and field. Last but not least, spring has baseball, softball, lacrosse, golf, boys’ tennis, boys’ volleyball, and outdoor track and field. As a freshman, this is the perfect opportunity to test out your athletic abilities and find a sport that suits you!
Not only does Poly have a wide variety of sports, we also have an amazing arts program. Our arts program is available to any student at Poly. There are plenty of different opportunities in the program – from art classes during the school day to after school rehearsals for the musical and play. Last year the high school’s spring musical was The Prom. This was one of the first Poly musicals that sold out! Many students expressed how amazing the performers were and how well the musical was cast. On the visual arts side there is an annual art show in the winter and spring. Each student who takes an art class creates a piece that decorates the hallways of the school. It is displayed to parents, teachers, and anyone who comes to visit the art show. Not only is it limited to visual arts, the art show also has performances from concert choir, advanced concert choir, the acapella clubs and our bands.
Poly offers an environment to foster new friendships and create close relationships with your teammates, classmates, coaches and mentors. Underclassmen, this is your opportunity to try something new and upperclassmen, it’s never too late to contribute to the Poly community!
