Football:
Despite some trouble with injuries, the Poly Football Team is off to a strong start after beating Dalton on Blue Devil Night 36-18, shutting out Fieldston 36-0 on Friday, September 13th, and defeating Rye Country Day 32-22 in an incredible comeback last Saturday. The team lost to Rye Country Day in the MIFL championship last season, so it was an important win in their season. Senior Quarterback Connor Igoe leads the team in touchdowns with seven and Junior Nate Rosenblatt is second with four through the first three games. The team looks to continue its undefeated record on Saturday, September 28th, away against Riverdale.
Tennis:
Poly Prep’s Girls’ tennis team started the season off with a commanding 5-0 sweep of Dalton on Blue Devil Night. They’ve since lost three matches, but there’s definitely hope for a turnaround, as they’re coming off a crucial win against Fieldston. The team played Stonybrook on Monday, looking to clinch a 3-3 record and begin a run towards the top of the standings. If the team plays how they did on Blue Devil Night, it is likely that we’ll be seeing them toward the top of the Ivy League standings and in contention for NYSAIS.
Boys’ Soccer:
Poly Prep’s Boys’ soccer team started the season off with an exciting matchup against Dalton which ended with a 2-2 tie. They now sit at an even 2-2-2, looking to improve their record. Their next two matches are on the road against Hackley and Dalton. Following the two away matches, the team spends the remainder of the Ivy League Season at Poly Prep’s Steinberg Complex. Led by their four Senior captains, Carlo Carson, Jasper Whiteley, Nicolas De Luque, and Kerry Song, the team is confident there’s a lot to build on for the remainder of the season. The juniors have been stepping up as well, as Jedi Scott has been a standout player so far and is tied for the top goal scorer on the team. (Carlo Carson is the Sports Columnist for the Polygon.)
Girls’ Soccer:
The Poly Girls’ soccer team stands at a 1-2-1 record after defeating Horace Mann, tying Riverdale and Trinity, and suffering a close loss to Dalton. Junior Bo Casey and Eighth Grader Lillian Ziff have two goals each, scoring against Riverdale and Dalton respectively.
Volleyball:
The Poly Girls Volleyball team is off to a hot 5-1 start to the season led by seniors Tallulah Glancy and Oakley DeCristofaro. The team secured wins against Fontbonne, Riverdale, Horace Mann, Dalton, and Stony Brook, and lost in their opener to non-league opponent Saint Ann’s. They headed to Vegas on September 18th for the Durango Volleyball Classic and will take on Dalton again away on September 27th.
Cross Country:
At this year’s Six Flags Invitational, our Freshmen Cross Country runners ran the two-mile. Tyler Chan ‘28 got eleventh place, Emma Bonetto ‘28 and Andrew Patel ‘28 got third place and Bryson Sylvain ‘28 got thirteenth place.
