As the fall season winds down, excitement is ramping up for the Poly Prep Varsity Football team as they prepare to head into the playoffs. The team opened strong with a 36-18 win over Dalton, setting the tone for a stellar season. They followed that up with a commanding 36-0 victory against Fieldston, demonstrating their offensive and defensive dominance.
This season wasn’t without adversity. Their sole loss came against Riverdale, in a 6-13 outcome that tested the team’s mental strength. The team learned from this loss, leading to back-to-back wins in their final two games, including a stellar win for the Homecoming game, with two impressive touchdowns from Junior Nate Rosenblatt.
The team has faced its share of injuries, but the roster’s depth has allowed them to adapt. Junior Chris Pepperman stated that the secret to their unmatched chemistry is that they’ve “grown together.” Younger players have stepped up to fill critical roles, while veterans, including Senior quarterback Connor Igoe, continue to provide leadership on and off the field.
On November 2nd, Poly faced an undefeated Montclair Kimberley Academy team in the Metropolitan Independent Football League (MIFL) semi-finals and rose to the occasion, beating them 30-7. Igoe had three total touchdowns, and Rosenblatt caught two of them. Junior Holden Morse also rushed for a touchdown, and Senior Petros Dulos kicked three extra points and a 25-yard field goal.
The team faced Hackley on Saturday, November 9th, at 7 p.m. in the MIFL championship, earning a hard-fought 41-21 victory. The game took place at the SUNY Purchase football field, and many Blue Devils showed up to support our 2024 MIFL Champions!
