Donald J. Trump was inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States on January 20th, 2025. Historically, presidents are sworn into oath outside the Capitol Building. Due to dangerously high winds and low temperatures this year, the President-Elect was sworn into office inside the United States Capitol Rotunda.
Following his inauguration, Trump immediately began implementing his agenda. According to BBC News, since his inauguration, Trump has ordered a federal hiring freeze, established the Department of Government Efficiency, and renamed “The Gulf of Mexico” to “The Gulf of America.” On immigration, he declared a national emergency at the southern border, resumed border wall efforts, attempted to restrict birthright citizenship (though this was blocked by several federal judges), and restricted legal immigration pathways. He has withdrawn from key international agreements, including the Paris Climate Accord and certain global trade pacts, prioritizing domestic energy production and economic nationalism. In his first days, Trump also pardoned January 6 rioters and began efforts to minimize DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) initiatives in military and educational settings.
