Baseball:
The 2025 Poly Baseball team is a senior-dominant team, featuring 15 of them, eight of whom are committed to playing college baseball. With the abundance of players, Coach Matt Roventini decided to split the team into three teams: Varsity A, Varsity B, and JV. The Varsity A team will compete at the highest level against dominant teams in the Northeast, such as Brunswick, Don Bosco Prep, and Malvern Prep. The Varsity B team will compete against teams in the Ivy Prep league. The JV team will also compete in the Ivy League but against JV teams. The team is currently ranked 8th in the nation according to Prep Baseball, and they look to maintain their authority as they head down to Tampa, Florida, during spring break to compete against other top-ranked schools in the IMG National Classic.
Softball:
The 2025 Poly Softball team is led by senior captains Lucia Zaremba (Who is also the Polygon Editor In Chief) and Gianna Denis, who are committed to playing softball at Wesleyan University and Southern Connecticut State University. The team is playing for their fourth consecutive NYSAIS championship and looks to stick to their winning ways. They will head down to Florida on March 21st, where they will face some tough competition that will prepare them for the road to reclaiming their title as champions.
Boys’ Lacrosse:
Coming off a historic 2024 season, which ended in a thrilling 9-8 victory over Poly’s longtime rivals Hackley in the NYSAIS Championship, the 2025 Poly Boys’ Lacrosse team looks to build off the legacy of last year’s team and keep the championship in Dyker Heights. The team, led by senior captains Evan Saunders and Petros Dulos, will begin their season in Orlando, where they will practice and scrimmage opposing schools during spring break.
Girls’ Lacrosse:
Last season, the Girls’ lacrosse team lost in the semifinals of the Ivy League in a thrilling game to rivals Rye Country Day. This season, the team looks to accomplish what they couldn’t last year and make it all the way. All the senior players on this year’s team will be captains, including Zoë Campbell, Drew Waldman, Lowie Giles, and Ava Vitali, who played a crucial role in the team’s success last season. The team will head down to Naples, Florida, during spring break to begin the season with warm weather and team bonding. “Our annual trip down south is always a great experience. I look forward to spending time with my teammates and building our chemistry on the field for the regular season,” said Giles.
Track and Field:
As the spring season kicks off, it marks the final chapter for some of Poly’s most accomplished senior track athletes. For the Boys’ team, Kofi Rossi and Jordan James have been instrumental to the program’s success since their freshman year. Rossi, a record-breaking sprinter, currently ranks second in New York State in the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:19.47. James has also etched his name in Poly history, holding the school records for the 100-meter dash (10.91 seconds) and both the indoor and outdoor 200-meter dashes (21.75 seconds).
Beyond Rossi and James, seniors Jack Bogner and Zaire Morales have been key contributors to the team’s dominance over the past four years. Bogner sits fourth in Poly history for the 55-meter hurdles and second in the 110-meter hurdles, while Morales holds the third-fastest times in both the 800-meter and 600-meter dashes.
The Girls’ team is also determined to close out the season with an NYSAIS championship, especially in honor of their seniors. Briyana Hart and Izzy Leyton have been standout performers throughout their time at Poly, consistently leading the Blue Devils to success. Hart ranks second all-time at Poly in the 100-meter dash (12.63 seconds) and third in the 55-meter dash (7.60 seconds). Meanwhile, Leyton holds the second-fastest times in school history for both the 1500-meter and 3000-meter races.
With so much talent and experience, this spring promises to be an exciting and memorable season for the Poly track and field team.
Boys’ Volleyball:
The Boys’ Volleyball team looks to bounce back in their 2024 season and bring the NYSAIS title back to Poly. Despite the loss of important seniors from the year before, the team is looking stronger than ever, led by senior captain Arthur Vieira.
“The team is looking good. We have some new recruits this season, and I’m confident that we can make a statement in the Ivy League,” said Vieira.
Golf:
This year’s Poly Golf team is captained by seniors Amber Dosik, Eli Cuti, and Sebastian Ferre. Last year, the team placed third in the Ivy League, but looks to surpass this feat and take home the #1 spot this season.
Boys’ Tennis:
Last year, the Boys’ Tennis team finished 5-5, unfortunately missing out on the playoffs. With practices beginning on the second week of spring break, spirits are high as the team is determined to leave their mark on the Ivy League this season. The team captains will be decided after spring break but will likely be two of the four seniors on the team: Ethan Steininger, Pablo Caselles, Eason Yao, and Gordon Hoffman.
