The production schedule for the new softball field has faced many delays, and after nearly a year of construction, the field will soon be open and ready for playtime. According to Head of School Audrius Barzdukas, it will be fully equipped with all of its features in time for softball preseason. In late September, the turf was fully installed and ready for use. In November, the final additions will arrive including the pressbox, scoreboard and bleachers, according to an article on Poly’s website.

Construction of the field was postponed and delayed from its original production schedule. The article on Poly’s website attributed these setbacks to supply chain issues and increasing efficiency in utilities for the field’s drainage.

The new softball field was always planned to be completed after the baseball field in order to aid the construction of the baseball field, according to Barzdukas. “You got to dig…when you’re doing it in one area that earth has to be put somewhere. You have to put it on the softball field,” he said. The surface area of the previous softball field was first used to hold the soil of the baseball field as it was being dug up.

As opening day approaches, players, and fans are excited for their very first game on the new turf.  “I can’t wait to play on a home field! I think the team has truly pushed through over the last year from commuting to practice to finding alternative practice spaces, but that really brought us together and made us even stronger for when Poly Softball returns home,” said Varsity Softball player Jane Littleton ’25.
