The Poly Prep Blue Devils are preparing for the spring season with a packed schedule across all sports. The teams all have talent, experienced leaders, newcomers and athletes competing at the highest level. From the diamond to the greens, the track, the lacrosse field, the Blue Devils are ready to carry on the tradition of excellence in every single program!
Baseball
The baseball team enters the season with high expectations and national recognition, ranked No. 47 nationally by Prep Baseball and No. 1 in New York by Perfect Game, placing them among the top high school programs in the country. Winter preseason training allowed them time to decide teams, refine skills, and prepare for a competitive spring schedule. The squad was also participating in their annual Blue Devil Challenge, led by senior Kobi Marshall ’26, a highlight of the preseason that helped energize the roster.
The roster shows standout talent, including three Division 1 commits: David Hinojosa ’26, headed to Vanderbilt; Felix Heller ’26, committed to the University of Pennsylvania; and Manny Acevedo ’27, who committed to the University of Virginia last year.
The Blue Devils will open the season at home on March 18 against Regis High School at 4:15 p.m.. With a strong returning core and national attention on their every move, the team will aim to live up to their preseason ranking while continuing a tradition of excellence.
Golf
The Poly Prep golf team is ready to tee off for the spring season, having already started preseason practices under the guidance of Head Coach Alex Carter, a former captain at Alabama State University. The team has been focused on refining swing mechanics, chipping, putting and maintaining positive body language to perform their best with an emphasis on consistency and focus.
One player to watch this spring is freshman Hailey Yap ’29, a new addition to the Poly Prep golf team and member of Team New York. With six years of club golf experience under her belt, she brings talent and dedication to this year’s squad. Yap spent the offseason increasing distance with all her clubs and continues to work on short games around the greens. “Golf is very mental,” she said. “I remind myself to take it one shot at a time and focus only on what I can control. Even if I don’t hit a great shot, there is always another opportunity to recover and do better.”
Despite being new to high school golf, Yap noted she quickly felt welcomed by the team’s camaraderie, with teammates practicing together, encouraging one another, and supporting each other. Gus Kumar ’29, another young golf prodigy, described the team’s supportive environment: “We keep positive self-talk and make sure any criticism is constructive. We encouraged each other with phrases like ‘you got this,’ ‘stay focused’ and one shot at a time.’” The team has created a balanced roster ready to go through their full spring schedule.
Poly Prep will officially open the season away at Sleepy Hollow Country Club against Hackley on April 7, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., where the team will have a chance to showcase their skills and make a strong team performance for the spring.

Over the past weeks, the team has concentrated on fundamental skills such as ground balls, passing, throwing and catching, while also emphasizing defensive techniques like boxing out, positioning and cutting. Preseason drills have also focused on stamina and endurance to prepare players for the full length of each game. Freshman attacker Esme Klein noted that a major goal for the team this year is to grow together and give their best in every game.
The program will also celebrate its continued tradition of producing elite athletes. Sienna Kluass ’26 has committed to play lacrosse at the University of Vermont, further showing the skill development and competitive culture in the Blue Devils Program. As the season starts, Poly Prep’s lacrosse teams will look to combine their individual talent with their teamwork, improving with every game while also maintaining the school’s long-standing tradition of competitive lacrosse.
Softball
The Poly Prep softball team enters the season with a strong legacy, having captured the NYSAIS Championship six times since 2016 (’16, ’18, ’19, ’22, ’23 and ’24), including last year’s title. The program has consistently been one of the top teams in the league, with strong pitching, solid defense and clutch hitting to maintain its competitive edge year after year.
The Blue Devils have been hard at work during the offseason, focusing on refining fundamentals, teamwork, base running and situational awareness in games.
The Blue Devils will kick off the season with a scrimmage against Wagner on March 10, 2026, giving the team a chance to test its lineup.
